Adriana Christianson is a studio potter based in Croydon, an outer eastern suburb, near Mt Dandenong in Melbourne, Australia.
All works are made and fired in her home studio, surrounded by a rambling garden and 1920's original farmhouse.
"I began making pots in High School and continued at Prahran College of Advanced Education studying a Diploma of Art & Design, majoring in Ceramics.
Afterwards, I worked in the production pottery of Jan Lewis and Tabletop Ceramics as a Studio Assistant and decorator.
My work has been evolving , as good work should , more so over the last 2 years - as Ive stepped away from production work - to focus more on exploring different clay and firing techniques.
My obsession with Teapots has begun to make a home for itself in my psyche and my practice .
Ive not always made them , but the more I do , the more I learn about how they function , how beautiful they can be , and how absolutely maddening they can be to make ! The endless forms - lid configurations , spouts , feet , strainers ...
The ‘Bird Series’ work is inspired by the vast native Australian birdlife in our Melbourne garden , and on our visits to Wilsons Promontory National Park .
My exploration into ‘Carbon Trap Shino’ type glazes began whilst we began foundations for a new workshop in our backyard we discovered a local terracotta clay , which ,when mixed with other clays /added to glazes , or used on its own as a decorative 'slip' on the surface - gave forth results I'd not had before with commercial minerals ."
